A walk through bushland to a lovely waterhole and a unique wave-shaped rock and creek that runs under the rock formations.

This heavily trafficked walk starts from the car park on Pyramids Road, approximately 4 kilometres past the Bald Rock Day Use Area.

From the car park, follow signs to Dr Roberts Waterhole, named after a local doctor who worked to establish the national park in order to protect the vulnerable wildlife.

The walk to the waterhole is relatively flat, passing through open bushland and grass heaths. At the waterhole, sit on the banks and enjoy the surrounding landscape reflecting on the still waters. There are also a number of large boulders that can be explored.

Retrace your steps to the junction and follow signs for Underground Creek, passing swampland on the way.

Marvel at the wave shaped rock formation and listen to the water trickling beneath the rocks that you stand on.

Then follow the path to the top of the wave to be intrigued by the creek that carves its way through the granite slab and seemingly disappears beneath boulders that have fallen from cliffs above.

Track: Graded and well-signed, the track is easy to follow.

Difficulty: The track is suitable for all fitness levels.

Direction: This is an out-and-back track that returns the way it came.

getting there

The trailhead is located on Pyramids Road in Girraween, about 4 kms further along the road from the Bald Rock Day Use Area, 3.25 hours drive south-west of Brisbane.

Parking is typically ample for how trafficked the walk is.

best time to go

The walk can be completed year-round, however the track can be exposed to the sun in places and should be avoided during the hottest part of the day during warmer months.

Always check the Queensland Parks website for updates on track closures.
