This moderately trafficked walk starts at a small car park off Oquinn Street in Nudgee, a bit further along than the Nudgee Beach area.

The walk is an easy stroll along a wooden boardwalk and graded track.

Meaning ‘place of salt water’, this short but surprisingly diverse walk begins sheltered in the mangroves of the Boondall Wetlands, hugging the banks of Nudgee Creek.

The walk occasionally pops out at some great viewing platforms along the way, offering views of the creek, or further along the river mouth and Moreton Bay.

Closer to the river mouth, you can dip your toes in the water at one of the little beach sections.

Also take the time to check out the bird watching hut, which is particularly interesting at low tide when the tidal flats come to life with crabs and other crustaceans and become a feeding ground for many species of birds.

The last part of the circuit includes a walk through bushland along a graded track, followed by a couple hundred metres walking along the road to complete the loop.

The walk is fantastic at all times, but best at sunset or early morning. High tide is best for photography, while low or mid-tide is best for bird watching, meaning this gem should be visited more than once.

Difficulty: The walk is an easy stroll suitable for all fitness levels, including those in wheelchairs (some assistance may be required at times). The walk is mostly flat.

Direction: This can be completed as a loop track, with clockwise the recommended direction, or an out-and-back walk that returns the way you came after the bird hide.
